Dance is once again at the heart of this year’s Wiesbaden International May Festival. With a diverse program ranging from contemporary dance to interactive formats, the Hessian State Ballet, in cooperation with international artists, presents impressive works that celebrate movement as a universal language.
One of the highlights is “Friends of Forsythe”, curated by William Forsythe and Rauf “RubberLegz” Yasit. This homage to the pioneering choreographer brings together artists who work with his movement language and develop it further.
The dance workshop with Rauf “RubberLegz” Yasit will be particularly interactive, giving participants the opportunity to try out movement principles from Forsythe’s repertoire for themselves.
Another outstanding piece is “The Visitors” by Constanza Macras / DorkyPark. This production combines dance with drama and explores the boundaries between the disciplines.
“Carousel” by Regina Rossi is a rousing dance piece that poetically explores the circularity of life.
The piece “Luft” by LAIKA and Merel Denie transports the audience into a dance narrative that deals with lightness, space and movement.
“Plié” by Raquel Nevado Ramos is an exciting exploration of the body in motion – a work that impresses with its artistic precision.
Another outstanding piece is “Notte Morricone” by Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau. Inspired by the music of legendary composer Ennio Morricone, Morau creates a visionary choreography that hovers between dream, symbolism and reality. With 16 dancers from the Italian company Centro Coreografico Nazionale/Aterballetto, he creates a visually stunning homage to the Italian grand master of film music. The performance will take place on May 14, 2025 in the main auditorium of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.
The May Festival thus offers a unique insight into the diversity of contemporary dance and demonstrates the relevance of the art of movement in today’s world. Be inspired by these extraordinary choreographies and experience dance in all its expressive power!
