Maria Eckert was born in Dresden and received her diploma as a professional dancer at the Palucca Hochschule Dresden in 2000. From 2000 to 2014 she was engaged as a soloist dancer at Theater Hagen, Niedersächsische Staatsoper Hannover, Landesbühnen Sachsen and Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Especially her longtime collaboration with choreographer Stephan Thoss had great impact on her, also in her further career as a teacher and coach.

During her dance career she worked with choreographers such as Ricardo Fernando, Stephan Thoss, Marco Goecke, Felix Landerer, Mauro de Candia, Yuki Mori, Mats Ek, Matthias Kass, Jiri Kilián, Giuseppe Spota, Johan Inger, Medhi Walerski among others.

Already in 2000 Maria created her first duet as a choreographer. Since then she has created more than 13 choreographies ranging from solos to full-length dance pieces.

Since 2013, she has been leading the dance Tanztheater PATINA, which she founded with women aged 50+. Together they regularly produce dance pieces, which they perform on various stages in the Rhine-Main area.

From 2014 to 2016 she worked as a ballet master and taught and assisted as a guest at Ballett Eisenach, Ballett Theater Vorpommern, Theater Nordhausen and National Theater Ballet Melbourne/AUS. During this time she additionally taught ballet and modern dance as a lecturer and gave improvisation workshops for children and adults as well as dance therapists.

From 2016 to 2019 she worked as assistant to the dance directorate, training and rehearsal director and choreographic assistant and from 2019 to 2022 as touring manager at tanzmainz/Staatstheater Mainz.

Since 2019, she has been completing a master’s study in Theater and Orchestra Management at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt/Main under Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmidt.

From the 2022/2023 season, she took over as production manager Wiesbaden at the Hessisches Staatsballett under ballet director Bruno Heynderickx.
