Luc Jacobs

Rehearsal Director

Born in Antwerp Belgium he started dancing at the age of 10 and graduated from the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp.

He worked with the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Deutsche Opern Berlin, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Northern Ballet Theatre, Carte Blanche, Bern Ballet and Batsheva Dance Company. He remained with Batsheva Dance Company for 18 years, initially as a dancer and then as Rehearsal Director of the company for 15 years, staging many productions of Ohad Naharin.

He trained and researched Gaga, Ohad Naharin’s movement language for 18 years.
During that time he developed himself as a choreographer, creating a large body of works, mainly within Batsheva Dance Company.
He was resident teacher at the Hasadna Dance Workshop in Tel Aviv where he taught his own repertoire and developed his own approach to movement improvisation and composition.

In 2020 he decided to leave Israel and relocated to China, where he joined Sleep No More Shanghai in 2021 until 2023, after which he started teaching and creating throughout China.

In 2024, he was commissioned to create NIX, a full length work for the Mid Mountain dancers in Changsha Hunan China and in 2025 created HEX, for Xiexin Dance Theatre in Shanghai China.

Among his adventures, he studied and practiced Chinese martial arts and Qigong in the UK for 7 years, which led him to pursue various practices and methodologies of meditation for many years afterwards.
