WENN ES PLÖTZLICH STILL WIRD (WHEN IT SUDDENLY FALLS SILENT) is a physical and musical exploration of impending danger: the moment before something happens, when something is in the air, thrown off balance, shifting in the atmosphere. Intuition kicks in before the conscious mind can grasp what is happening. In that instant, the body positions itself between the self and the world. A moment of absolute presence.
Inspired by action films and survival horror games, the piece translates brutal close-combat situations involving female protagonists into choreographic language.
Interviews conducted by the artists as well as personal accounts from security personnel and people working in high-risk professions also informed the movement research.
How does danger manifest itself in the body? Where does tension build? What postures emerge?
The music, composed and performed live by electronic musician Sebastian Wasner, and the immersive set and lighting design by artist Lukas Ipsmiller create a space in which internalised danger is set in motion and transformed into agency.
