OUTRAR
CALIXTO NETO / VOA & VOLMIR CORDEIRO / DONNA VOLCAN
Inspired by the Portuguese word “Outrar” (“to become someone else”), this double bill brings together two choreographic responses to questions of identity, otherness and transformation. The project was initiated by Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, who invited several Brazilian artists living in Europe to each develop their own version of Outrar, based on a shared soundtrack, a collection of movement tasks and an exchange carried out across distances.
In his version, Calixto Neto turns his attention to bodies perceived as foreign, different or invisible, exploring the potential inherent in these social perceptions and in questioning them. Volmir Cordeiro, by contrast, approaches transformation as a process of metamorphosis. Through gestures, characters and shifting identities, a play unfolds between joy, nostalgia and the longing for another place. Starting from the same point of departure, both works develop their own distinct choreographic approaches. Together, they create an evening that understands transformation not as an exception, but as a fundamental human experience.
