Ludmila Komkova

Assistant ballet masters & dance outreach

Ludmila Komkova was born in Minsk, Belarus. The daughter of two Principal Soloists of the National Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Opera and Ballet of the Republic of Belarus, she began her training at the Belarusian State Choreographic College at the age of eleven. She later continued her studies at the renowned John Cranko School in Stuttgart, graduating in 2006.

Her first engagement took her to the ballet company of the Chemnitz State Theatre in 2006. Since 2008 she has lived and worked in Wiesbaden, initially with the Thoss Tanz Kompanie/Ballet of the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden under the direction of Stephan Thoss. From the 2014/15 season onward, she became part of the newly founded Hessian State Ballet under Artistic Directors Tim Plegge and Bruno Heynderickx.

During this time, Ludmila danced leading roles in works by internationally acclaimed choreographers, including Hans van Manen, Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin, Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger, Medhi Walerski, Edward Clug, Richard Siegal, Bryan Arias, Jeroen Verbruggen, Stephan Thoss, Tim Plegge, and Hideo Fukagawa.

In 2012, she was nominated as “Dancer of the Year” by tanz magazine for her striking interpretation of Juliet in Stephan Thoss’ Romeo and Juliet.

Alongside her career as a dancer, Ludmila has been creating her own choreographic works since 2013. Her debut piece Between Now and Infinity was set to music by Fazıl Say. In 2019 she won first prize at the Concours de Jeunes Chorégraphes in Bordeaux with her choreography No One, created for the Hessian State Ballet.

Since then, she has choreographed for the Ballet of the Opéra National de Bordeaux, Compagnie Illicite Bayonne, and the Croatian National Theatre HNK Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka.

Currently, Ludmila Komkova works as an assistant to the ballet masters and in the field of dance education and outreach.
