Special Guest Workshop: Waacking with Yeliz Pazar

We are delighted to welcome Yeliz Pazar as a very special guest instructor in Darmstadt!

The Düsseldorf-based dancer and choreographer is part of the first generation of Waacking dancers in Germany. A true pioneer and influential figure within the dance culture, she brought Germany its first international Waacking festival with THE WAACK OFF. Thanks to her extensive expertise, she is regularly invited to judge battles and teach workshops across Europe. In her workshop in Darmstadt, she will not only introduce you to the essential foundations of Waacking, but also share effective learning methods to support your independent practice.

About the dance style: Waacking emerged during the disco era of the early 1970s within the Afro-Latinx American LGBTQIA+ community in Los Angeles. At a time when queer people faced exclusion and discrimination in wider society, gay clubs offered a safer space where they could freely express themselves. Waacking thus developed into a powerful form of dance expression in the face of oppression. Characteristic elements include rotating arm movements, poses and a strong emphasis on individual expression.
