Adriano Bolognino:
Samia

As part of his residency, the Italian up-and-coming choreographer Adriano Bolognino tells the story of Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar in his new creation Samia. After Your Body is a battleground, the choreographer thus once again places a strong and powerful personality at the center of a piece. In addition to the question of inequality, Bolognino focuses on the social situation of women in Africa and the dramatic experiences of migrant:innees at sea. Inspired by the story of Samia, the play is meant to be an ode to freedom, using the tools of the body, voice and character. The freedom to choose who you want to be is a luxury that still seems to be a utopia for a woman, not only in Somalia. For those interested, there is the opportunity to gain insight into Bolognino’s rehearsal work during a work in progress.

Starting from some characteristics of his work, the use of gestures in choreography, composition and rhythmic changes, Andriano Bolognino would like to explore together with the participants how these take shape through the hands, arms, face and how specifically body parts merge with each other through different dynamics and qualities.
