Midnight Raga, Bouffées, and I’m afraid to forget your smile
The Hessische Staatsballett will embark on a guest tour to Aranya, China, in early October with three of its successful productions: Midnight Raga, Bouffées, and I’m afraid to forget your smile.
On this occasion, an open rehearsal with a post-rehearsal talk will be held on September 25 at 7:00 PM in the Large Ballet Hall of the company at the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden.
The three works showcase the wide range of the Hessian State Ballet’s repertoire. In the duet Midnight Raga, Marco Goecke combines a deep midnight blue with the music of Ravi Shankar, while still staying true to his nervously energetic movement style, despite the oriental influences. Leïla Ka’s award-winning Bouffées (2022) presents five women trapped in grief, the reasons for which remain unknown but appear to be diverse. Imre and Marne van Opstal explore the moment of letting go in I’m afraid to forget your smile, with six dancers and choruses, treating it as a transitional state in surrendering to loss.
The open rehearsal will feature excerpts from at least one of the three works.
The seating capacity is limited to 40 places.
