Motion Creation Design
Cooperation with the Hochschule Darmstadt
Motion Creation Design is a collaboration between the Hessische Staatsballett, the “Expanded Media” degree program at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences under Prof. Thorsten Greiner, and museums in the Rhine-Main region such as the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden and the artist collective “Motion Sound Creation”. It is taking place as part of World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026.
The project explores the dynamic interaction between generative AI and human movement. The AI acts as an interface that processes knowledge in real time and reinterprets it through creative image and information associations. Choreography serves as a means of communication to translate movement into visual associations. The project will be presented in museums in the Rhine-Main region with live performances by the Hessian State Ballet. Visitors can interactively influence the design process and help shape the development of the visual visions. The AI thus becomes a creative partner for artistic experiments and the exploration of cultural heritage.
In workshops, the dancers of the Hessian State Ballet learn how to use the interactive AI system from the project’s co-director Ronja Timmer, which they later pass on to the participants in the performances.
Motion Creation Design combines dance, AI, and participatory art, opening up new dialogues about design, society, and democracy. Movements make the effect of architectural spaces tangible and reflect their adaptation to human needs. In inclusive workshops, design is experienced as a democratic, collaborative act in which participation, sensuality, and dialogue play central roles.
The musical layer is created live on synthesizers by @luggez_ and expands this process with a sonic dimension. Sound functions as a dynamic interface between movement and image, intensifying their reciprocal interaction.

On March 1, 2026, a program will take place that is especially aimed at families.
Additional dates are planned for the Rhine-Main region.
The Kunsthaus Wiesbaden is wheelchair accessible.

Workshop
The Motion Creation Design project is dedicated to the dynamic interaction between generative AI systems and the human body in motion. Dance and choreography are used as means of communication to interpret knowledge in creative ways and translate human movement into visual associations.
Participants are invited to explore their own body awareness, take a fresh look at their everyday environment, and work together with others to creatively shape visions of the future.
Ages 16 and up (except for the family performance on March 1)
Inclusive: Different physical, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds are expressly welcome.
Comfortable clothing and sneakers (additional warm sweater and pants recommended)
Travel: Self-organized, no reimbursement for travel expenses incurred.
The workshop dates do not build on each other.

World Design Capital 2026
Every two years, the World Design Organization awards the title World Design Capital to a city or region. In 2026, Frankfurt RheinMain will become the international stage for design.
Together with the region, we are realizing pioneering projects and numerous events that demonstrate what design can achieve — for society and democracy, for the way we live together and for our everyday lives.
Throughout the year, our program is guided by a range of thematic focuses. They address questions from daily life, give the program a dynamic structure, and make the many different facets of design tangible and accessible.
