“The Seasons” by Malandain Ballet Biarritz, under the artistic direction of Thierry Malandain, musically combines the famous “The Four Seasons” by Antonio Vivaldi with the lesser-known “Le Quattro Stagioni dell’anno” (“The Four Seasons of the Year”) by his contemporary and fellow countryman Giovanni Antonio Guido.
Under the sign of the number four—a symbol of creation, balance, and harmony—the forms of Baroque dance (“belle danse”) meet a more natural and human movement language. Between order and a life cycle thrown out of balance, a poetic fantasy unfolds: against a backdrop of black flower petals scattered to the horizon, winged beings mourn the loss of spirit and clarity.
