HOST

with Nathan Adriaanse

Get an exclusive insight into the work of Nathan Adriaanse, a South African dancer, choreographer and dance educator who has been performing on stages around the world for over a decade. Nathan began his career with breakdancing at the age of thirteen and is now considered a master of hip-hop and groove, creating internationally acclaimed choreography. More recently, Nathan has turned his focus to the vibrant independent scene, where he seeks to push boundaries with experimental and open formats. As part of the Host residency, he collaborates with a diverse ensemble of dancers and a video artist, exploring artistic strategies that combine audio description, video and choreography: an exploration informed by his unique experiences of visual impairment. The residency combines dance, video, choreography and light and opens up for a showing in the Darmstadt Ballet Hall. The audience is invited to see first-hand Nathan’s intensive research and gain insight into a transformative artistic process that challenges convention and celebrates creativity.
Join us for an unforgettable experience that redefines the boundaries of performance art!

The HOST residency program reduces barriers in the field of artistic productions. Dance artists with disabilities still have little access to established theater institutions in Germany, regardless of the quality of their work. HOST is intended to be a first step towards giving these groups of artists access to professional working structures and at the same time to diversify perspectives and physicalities in the dance scene.
