Holding Space

In Holding Space, Anouk van Dijk explores the power of three bodies in space.
For the Dutch choreographer, it is her first short piece in 25 years, following a series of acclaimed full-length productions. Her two-part choreography is set to the violin works After Sorrow by David Lang, from his cycle Mystery Sonatas, and Duet by Steve Reich.

Fascinated by the tightly woven yet open structures of both compositions—oscillating between spiritually infused Baroque influences and mathematical construction—van Dijk unfolds an unstoppable dynamic in the interplay of dance and music, where apparent simplicity reveals itself through complexity. Similarly divergent—at times opening, then closing again—the space itself becomes an active partner, shaped by the dialogue between light and choreography.
