Choreografische Werkstatt

On 18th April, four selected artists will present sections from their newest creations at the Wartburg of Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and give an exclusive insight in their workung processes and inquiries. COCONUT x THE NEW WHITE AESTHETIC | kemelo nozipho sehlapelo

I will be sharing a section of an ongoing research for a performance titled COCONUT.

COCONUT is an exploration, examination and confrontation of and with diaspora (diasporic dances). The performers converse with contemporary notions of blackness, whiteness, and the surrealism of being required to fluctuate between the two.

For this sharing, I’d like to show a section of movement material that I can currently describe as a hybrid of my historical, bodily archive. I believe it would be great to receive some feedback on what it brings and what the witnesses experience it to mean.

Touch (WT) | Marion Plantey / Wamma Dance Company

Marion Plantey and dancer Rouven Pabst are fascinated by the concept of the hug and present a duet that investigates prolonged hugs.

This investigation deals with the complex dynamic of prolonged hugs and explores the evolving emotions and corporeality. Beyond mere movement, the work questions the effects of an unnaturally prolonged contact and targets the redefinition of intimacy and provokes honesty in an extended hug.

This work is part of Marion’s extensive research about trauma-sensible and careful exploration of bodily contact.

Maybe we’ll see | Kobzeva & Domnick

This work is inspired by the increasingly digital life and how it affects us. I struggled with the fact that I kept trying to disconnect from the various devices, media, and streams of information, as it began to affect my well-being. I decided to explore the feeling of being pulled in different directions, between, on the one hand, constantly deciding and making decisions, and on the other hand, being sucked into the systems and following what is offered by the algorithm.

Populism | Matthew Tusa

In my new dance piece, I take a critical look at the phenomenon of populism and how it is increasingly gaining a foothold in the middle of society. How much it speaks to our sense of security and our desire to change the world. How people are seduced by the simplicity of populism, by the intense emotions behind these movements.

Not only that, but also the body language as well as the rhetoric of populists are physically brought to life in this dance piece.
Populism: A Game of Power, Power and Influence — an ancient, performative dance.
