Cabraqimera

Choreography by Catarina Miranda

A quartet on roller skates. Cabraqimera dives into the effects of speed taking inspiration from science fiction. Within a spatial organisation the choreography evolves through a set of codes of occupation, interceptions and encounters.

In this world, the hypnotic gestures are underscored by fluorescent lighting that reveals positive and negative spaces, projecting the body toward an extreme otherness.

Biography

Born in Portugal Catarina Miranda (1982), is an artist working with languages that intercept image, movement, voice, scenography and light; approaching the body as a vessel for the transformation and mediation of hypnagogic states (relating to the state immediately before falling asleep), as well as for gestures and processes of the visceral conscience of the present.

She completed an EXERCE master’s degree at ICI-CCN in Montpellier, (France), a degree in Visual Arts in Porto (Portugal)  and studied NOH Theater at Kyoto Art Center, Japan.

Miranda has created Cabraqimera, Dream is the Dreamer, Mazezam, Boca Muralha and Reiposto Reimorto and presented work at the Pompidou Centre and Palais de Tokyo (Paris/ FR), Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon/PT), Serralves Museum (Porto/PT), National Theatre (Porto/Pt), Festival Materiais Diversos (Pt), Festival DDD (Pt), Festival Pays de Danses (Liège/BE), Festival Mindelact (Santiago/CP), Festival Short Theatre (Rome/IT).

Miranda has presented the visual installation Poromechanics at the Pompidou Centre (Paris/ FR), Teatro Municipal Porto/ Maus Hábitos (Porto/PT), Festival Walk&Talk (Azores/Pt) and São Luiz Teatro Municipal (Lisboa/Pt).

Currently there are no upcoming performances of this Program.
