Double duet at the Kammerspiele. With AMAE by Eliana Stragapede & Borna Babić and Antibodies by Constantin Trommlitz, the Hessisches Staatsballett invites two award-winning contemporary duets to Darmstadt in January.

AMAE explores the boundaries between care and obsession, love and pain, support and control. At the centre of the dance piece is the desire to be loved and to seek the compliance of others. How far can you go before feelings and needs turn into the opposite? Italian Eliana Stragapede and Croatian Borna Babić are a duo of dancers and choreographers based in Brussels. Their furious 30-minute dance piece AMAE won 1st prize at the renowned Copenhagen International Choreography Competition.

Antibodies conveys the blunt honesty and reality of pain. Two dancers share their unfiltered relationship with pain – sometimes isolated in their suffering, sometimes caring and accepting in their interaction with each other. The duet by German choreographer Constantin Trommlitz combines elements of breaking and contemporary dance to create an innovative movement language that emphasises the dancers’ sensitive relationship to their own stories of pain. Antibodies was selected for the 2024 international choreography competition in Hanover and won the Trier Theatre production prize.
