Final spurt Tanzfestival Rhein Main

The Tanzfestival Rhein Main is not only in full swing, but is already in its final steps!

This Friday, the piece “SOMATIC TRATATA – rhythm, rapture and romance” will be performed at the Wartburg in Wiesbaden.
Hannah Shakti Bühler and Simon Mayer explore the three key elements of breath, voice and movement in their piece. The repetitive rhythms of the southern Italian pizzica tarantata meet Alpine folk dances and pop culture: a dance concert of animated breaths, vibrations and affects that questions and re-explores heteronormative couple dynamics and gender roles. In a wild and humorous duet, the performers test their limits by playfully exploring each other.

To date, Hannah Shakti Bühler and Simon Mayer have developed choreographic works and research focussing on the individual and the community.  With Somatic Tratata, they are now focussing on power relations in the context of traditional couple dances. They are inspired by the work of Terrence Real (Relational Couple Life Therapy), Betty Martins (The Wheel of Consent), Corine Sombrun (TranceScienceInstitute) and Karoline Wibmer. By questioning heteronormative forms, Somatic Tratata proposes a new tradition of couple dance. At the end of the piece, Bühler and Mayer then return to their artistic origins and invite the audience to a FOLK DANCE PARTY to celebrate the art and power of celebration as the origin of dance.

On Saturday, 18 November, the grand festival finale awaits on the main stage of the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. The Wiesbaden premiere of “Last Work” by Ohad Naharin will bring the 17-day contemporary dance festival to a close.

You are invited to celebrate the end of this year’s festival with us in the foyer!
