Editorial<\/strong><\/h3>\n

17 October 2014 – the curtain rises on the very first performance of the newly founded Hessisches Staatsballett. The beginning of a journey full of excitement and expectations for us as well as the dance-loving communities in Wiesbaden, Darmstadt and beyond.<\/p>\n

Ten and a half years later, we thought about how we could celebrate this remarkable decade full of creativity, wonderful encounters and memories. So we developed a programme that, despite its name Chronicles, does not look back. Instead of a mere collection of past highlights, it dares to take a bold step forwards, just as it did when the Hessisches Staatsballett was founded. The result is a gala programme that carries the spirit of innovation and discovery and offers a variety of sensory impressions, both musically and choreographically.
\nChronicles comprises no less than four world premieres, complemented by two existing works, creating a rousing and forward-looking celebration of our journey. These six short creations, choreographed by seven inspiring contemporary dance makers, highlight the remarkable artistic and technical diversity in the talent of our dancers.<\/p>\n

We are all the more delighted to be accompanied by the wonderful orchestras of both state theatres, which we proudly call home.<\/p>\n

Dance is, like history, a chronicle \u2013 a continuously unfolding testament of movement, emotion, and time. Yet unlike words bound between the pages of a book, dance is ephemeral. It exists only in the moment, vanishes as soon as it appears, and leaves its traces in memories and impressions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chronicles<\/strong> presents six contemporary dance pieces by seven choreographers in a three-part evening. None of the creations is longer than 20 minutes. Together, they form a vibrant, moving panorama, framed by an open stage space and accompanied by live music performed by the state orchestras of Wiesbaden and Darmstadt. The musical repertoire combines diverse works by giants of classical and minimal music, as well as experimental compositions. These chronicles of dance stretch a wide arc both choreographically and musically.<\/p>\n

The evening opens with FAUNO<\/strong> by Liliana Barros. The Portuguese choreographer engages with an iconic theme from the history of literature, music, and ballet. At the heart of it lies the story of the faun, which was inspired by the symbolist poem L\u2019Apr\u00e8s-midi d\u2019un faune<\/em> (“The Afternoon of a Faun”) by St\u00e9phane Mallarm\u00e9 from 1876. This poem in turn inspired Claude Debussy in 1894 to compose Pr\u00e9lude \u00e0 l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi d\u2019un faune<\/em> and Vaslav Nijinsky in 1912 to create his ballet L\u2019Apr\u00e8s-midi d\u2019un faune<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Barros is intrigued by how the Symbolist movement, spanning across art forms, uses dreams and taboos as a response to spirituality and evokes the mysterious and unspoken through myths. She explores what meaning these symbolic figures still hold today and how they can be interpreted in the age of the Anthropocene.<\/p>\n

In Force Majeure<\/strong>, David Raymond & Tiffany Tregarthen explore the idea of existential vulnerability to an external force \u2013 one that may also be deeply rooted within ourselves. They ask to what extent this unpredictable variable in the equation of human life reappears throughout the ages, and how our inner climate is intertwined with the external one. They seek harmony between formation and dissolution \u2013 a pact between creation and destruction as the driving force for change within ourselves, our relationships with others, the world around us, and our future. The piece by the Canadian duo, set to compositions by French artist Ang\u00e8le David-Guillou, premiered as a new creation for the Hessian State Ballet in the 2022\/23 season at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. As part of Chronicles<\/em>, an excerpt of the choreography will be restaged to David-Guillou’s works Forgetting Trees<\/em> and Exocet<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Bouff\u00e9es<\/strong> by Le\u00efla Ka is a restaging of the French choreographer\u2019s independent production. The award-winning piece from 2022 presents five women trapped in the grip of grief\u2014its causes unknown, but seemingly manifold. Feelings of overwhelm and liberation balance each other as the performers attempt to transform emerging sorrow into the power of life. Lined up in floral dresses, a physical and sonic cacophony unfolds, uniting breath, repeated gestures, and a rhythm of falling and rising again.<\/p>\n

In Holding Space<\/strong>, Anouk van Dijk explores the power of three bodies in a space. For the Dutch choreographer, this is her first short piece in 25 years, following her successful full-length productions. Her dual-part choreography is set to the violin piece After Sorrow<\/em> by David Lang from his Mystery Sonatas<\/em> cycle and Duet<\/em> by Steve Reich. Fascinated by the close yet open structure of both compositions \u2013 which oscillate between spiritually influenced baroque and mathematical construction \u2013 van Dijk creates an unstoppable dynamic through the synergy of dance and music. Its apparent simplicity reveals itself to be complex. Similarly, the space acts in a divergent manner \u2013 opening, then closing \u2013 in interaction with light and choreography.<\/p>\n

In Moonfall<\/strong>, Dunja Joci\u0107 deals with extreme situations. Against the backdrop of current socio-political crises, the Serbian-Dutch choreographer examines the relationship between the individual and the collective during upheaval and restoration. She is particularly interested in how people perceive and act in a state of alert. Joci\u0107 works with Rewriting Beethoven\u2019s Seventh Symphony Part 1<\/em> by Michael Gordon and The Whole\u2019s Gone Missing<\/em> by Renger Koning. In the two-part structure of her choreography, she uses the tense and sometimes chaos-inducing nature of the music to symbolize the fragile and unpredictable acts in the struggle between acceptance and rebellion.<\/p>\n

Finally, in The Mass Ornament<\/strong>, Spanish choreographer Fran D\u00edaz reflects on an aspect of Siegfried Kracauer\u2019s 1963 essay collection The Mass Ornament<\/em>. In it, the philosopher \u2013 associated with the Frankfurt School \u2013 uses the example of the 1920s revue troupe The Tiller Girls<\/em> to describe the rationalization of bodies as a socio-economic expression of mass production. D\u00edaz brings this idea into the present and employs a wide spectrum of choreographic formations. Set to the relentless music of Henryk G\u00f3recki\u2019s Concerto for Harpsichord and String Orchestra Op. 40<\/em> and an additional composition by Tom Foskett-Barnes, D\u00edaz divides his piece into three sections. Precision, awareness, and exhaustion characterize the self-sacrifice for the whole in the choreography. Amid all the obsession with conformity, a kiss sometimes remains the last bastion of humanity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Three Questions for Choreographer Liliana Barros<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What is your approach to exploring the figure of the faun?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I delve into connotations of the grotesque, the extraordinary, and imperfection. The figure in FAUNO<\/em> represents an individual who reflects on the state of their soul beyond metaphor and symbolism. It\u2019s about uncovering layers of emotional states burdened by self-doubt and a sense of incompleteness. Their thoughts wander through a dark underworld, marked by a longing for belonging and a search for identity that splinters into multiple self-images \u2013 an attempt to attain freedom.<\/p>\n

How do music and choreography relate in your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I give choreography priority. When I work with an existing composition, it\u2019s essential for me to feel a strong connection to the piece, as it greatly influences my process. In FAUNO<\/em>, Debussy\u2019s magnificent score provides the ultimate soundscape for this work. The exciting challenge was to add a contrasting layer. So, two artistic forms of expression coexist and interact with one another.<\/p>\n

The costumes somewhat counteract the dance interpretation. Why this contrast?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was searching for a way to oppose the idea of concealing emotional states. Almost like a mirror effect, I wanted to find something that ultimately reveals the eccentricity and exaggeration of the characters, thus challenging the fear of making inner darkness visible. The costume design carries a certain show-like atmosphere that contrasts with the characters\u2019 opaque inner states. Like a crystal exposed to light, it reflects in many directions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Liliana Barros<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Portuguese-born Liliana Barros is an independent choreographer based in Germany. After completing her dance training at CODARTS in Rotterdam, Barros performed with several renowned companies, including Compagnia Zappal\u00e1 Danza in Sicily, Pretty Ugly Dance Company in Cologne, the Ballet of the Saarl\u00e4ndisches Staatstheater, and Compagnie Marie Chouinard in Montreal.<\/p>\n

As a freelance choreographer, Barros has created commissioned works for companies such as Tanz at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Ballet of the Saarl\u00e4ndisches Staatstheater, Gauthier Dance, the MiR Dance Company, the dance company at Theater Osnabr\u00fcck, Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Tanz_Kassel at Staatstheater Kassel, and Staatsballett Hannover.<\/p>\n

Her choreographic work is characterized by an intense theatrical atmosphere, where the elegant plasticity of the body intertwines with technical elements of dance in a deconstructed form. Among her independent productions are NERVURE<\/em>, a highly acclaimed solo piece that won several international awards and toured worldwide, as well as MEMORABILIA<\/em> and TECHNO FAUNA<\/em>. The latter two received funding from the state of Lower Saxony and various other German foundations. TECHNO FAUNA<\/em> was also nominated by the Stiftung Niedersachsen in 2022 as one of the most outstanding independent theater productions in Lower Saxony and was presented at the Best OFF Festival in Hanover. FAUNO<\/em> is her first work for the Hessian State Ballet.<\/p>\n

In what ways are you approaching the material differently this time?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our original process placed great emphasis on introducing the dancers to our physical interests \u2013 the transformation of weight, trajectory, momentum, and force. Now, we\u2019re focusing more on visual language and encouraging the dancers\u2019 imagination in relation to the space within, between, and around them. Since we now know them and the work itself much better, we\u2019re searching for poetry in the details and looking for ways to bring more of their unique individuality into the piece.<\/p>\n

How do you translate the existential theme of a \u201chigher force\u201d into your piece aesthetically?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Through an infinite harmony of formation and dissolution. This is expressed through the body, the group, and the stage design. The relationship between internal and external climate plays a crucial role. The dancers remain in a state of transformation. They are connected to one another and to the elements through a kind of psychic connective tissue. Light, set, and props function as hyper-objects beyond time and the human scale. Strength and power are expressed through revealed fragility.<\/p>\n

You work with music by composer Ang\u00e8le David-Guillou.
What role does it play in your creative process?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ang\u00e8le\u2019s music is truly music to dance to. It was the inspirational starting point and guiding thread for the piece. It offers both the vastness of the cosmos and the depth of the inner world. Her music connects us to the mysterious, unexplainable relationship between nature and the cosmos. Additionally, Ang\u00e8le creates an atmosphere akin to film music \u2013 the feeling of multiple interwoven timelines in different dimensions that influence one another.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

After collaborating for the first time in 2004, the Canadian choreographic duo spent a two-year residency in Antwerp, Belgium, to continue developing their creative partnership and refine their unique movement language. Their studies and early careers took them to New York, South Korea, Brazil, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Italy, where they worked with institutions such as the London School of Contemporary Dance, Rotterdamse Dansacademie, Fontys Dansacademie, Hansung University, and New York University.<\/p>\n

They performed with artists and companies including Justine A. Chambers, Company 605, Wen Wei Dance, and the Beijing Modern Dance Company. Both have had long-standing collaborations with Crystal Pite\u2019s company Kidd Pivot, performing in acclaimed productions such as Betroffenheit<\/em> and Revisor<\/em>, both recipients of the Olivier Award.<\/p>\n

In 2007, they founded their own company, Out Innerspace Dance Theatre<\/strong>, in Vancouver, on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish peoples. Determined to move beyond traditional aesthetics, they challenge the possibilities of contemporary dance through research and experimentation.<\/p>\n

Since 2021, they have been creating works for major companies such as Ballet BC and Nederlands Dans Theater 2. Their acclaimed piece Bygones<\/em> has been touring globally since 2019, reaching over 30 cities in 14 countries. Their choreography has been recognized with awards such as the CanDance Creation Fund (2014) and the Crystal Dance Prize (2019). They also held the title of Associate Artists of Agora de la Danse in Montreal for three years.<\/p>\n

Beyond their artistic work, they run Modus Operandi, a training program that provides impulses for dance development and personalized mentorship. How do these two works relate to your choreography?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lang\u2019s music moves downward, like vertical forces gently pressing the dancers toward the ground as they try to rise. Reich\u2019s music, on the other hand, is like windows opening: an endless panoramic landscape that unfolds horizontally. These contrasting atmospheres penetrate the dancers\u2019 bodies, creating a constantly evolving chain of events that reconfigure familiar patterns and keep them in a state of perpetual transformation.<\/p>\n

Can you briefly describe your work with the dancers within the framework of your
Countertechnique?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m interested in a three-dimensional movement language that connects the dancers to the infinite space around them. Countertechnique helps them balance the tension between freedom and control, between the body\u2019s limits and its limitless potential. This equilibrium\u2014this dichotomy\u2014has always fascinated me, and I use this methodology to explore freedom within the physical boundaries of the body alongside the dancers.<\/p>\n

What influence do costumes and set design have on your choreographic process?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The tension between physical space and the individual is my starting point. Her designs, exhibitions, and artworks are based on a guiding principle in which time is perceived as cyclical rather than linear.<\/p>\n

Exhibitions such as Six Yards<\/em> at the Arnhem Museum (2012) \u2014 as a member of the artist collective Suze May Sho \u2014 reflect this approach, exploring the past and present of Vlisco fabrics. In the exhibition, the fabrics were treated as equal to contemporary art. A similar method was employed in the exhibition series Moonshot<\/em> at the Valkhof Museum in Nijmegen (2022), created in close collaboration with Flos Wildschut, which presented contemporary art and scientific heritage in harmony.<\/p>\n

In Moonfall<\/em>, you address the challenges of our time. What are these for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m interested in how societal structures function in times of crisis. I can\u2019t ignore the global state of the world, especially in relation to my own background. The way countries are governed\u2014power, manipulation, chaos, order, resistance, and belief, to name just a few aspects\u2014became the central theme of my choreographic exploration. A key element for me is the mental state in difficult times, and what it takes to survive.<\/p>\n

To what extent did the music by Michael Gordon and Renger Koning influence the development of your piece?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Usually, I have music composed during the creative process. In the end, I start piecing it together, almost like editing a film. In this case, the music was set from the very beginning, and I was, in a way, guided by it. Both works carry a strong internal dramaturgy. I play with their musicality\u2014sometimes using it as a driving force for movement, composition, and intensity; other times, I try to move through it and create an additional choreographic layer that shifts our perception of the music.<\/p>\n

What role do set and costume design play in your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The stage and costume design were the first things that came to me. This white image was so vivid, I couldn\u2019t let go of it\u2014everything else followed from there. The “purity” of white, contrasted with the intensity of the theme, creates a powerful juxtaposition. Serbian-Dutch choreographer Dunja Joci\u0107 began her artistic journey as a professional rhythmic gymnast, becoming Vice-Champion of Yugoslavia and a member of the Yugoslav Olympic team before transitioning into a career in dance.<\/p>\n

Joci\u0107 is based in Amsterdam, where she has led her own company since 2016. Her work has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Swan Award for Best Dance Production 2020\/21 for The Panter<\/em>. In addition to producing works with her own company, Joci\u0107 has created pieces for various ensembles such as Spellbound Dance Company (Italy), Gauthier Dance, Club Guy & Roni (Netherlands), Staatstheater Braunschweig, Theater Bielefeld, and Stadttheater Osnabr\u00fcck.<\/p>\n

She also creates work for the screen. Her dance film Bird<\/em> (2015) was nominated for the Golden Calf Award, the most prestigious film prize in the Netherlands. Her latest work will appear in Peter Greenaway\u2019s new film Lucca Mortis<\/em>, starring Dustin Hoffman, Helen Hunt, and Sofia Boutella.<\/p>\n

Ivana Vasic\u0301<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Serbian designer Ivana Vasi\u0107 was born in Belgrade. After receiving a diverse classical education with a focus on German language and literature, as well as training in ballet, visual arts, and sports, she decided to study costume design at the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design in Belgrade. Even during her studies, she received her first professional commissions.<\/p>\n

Since completing her Master\u2019s degree in stage costume design, she has worked on a wide range of projects both nationally and internationally. Her portfolio includes over 70 theatre productions, numerous films and TV series, dozens of commercials, and hundreds of costume designs for advertising and the HoReCa industry (Hotel\/Restaurant\/Caf\u00e9).<\/p>\n

Notable projects include the films The Machine<\/em> (Legendary\/Sony Pictures), Tarot<\/em> (Sony Pictures), and The Deal<\/em> (Electric Entertainment); the TV series Besa<\/em> (Season 1), The Outpost<\/em> (Seasons 2, 3, and 4), The Ark<\/em> (Seasons 1 and 2), and The Librarians: TNC<\/em> (Seasons 1 and 2). She also designed costumes for the Serbian Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020, as well as the official competition gear for the Serbian national diving team.<\/p>\n

Her projects span a wide range of genres, including medieval fantasy, science fiction, action comedy, horror, contemporary crime drama, and fashion design. Vasi\u0107 is also a trained diver and serves as the Secretary General of the Serbian Diving Federation on a voluntary basis.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t

I\u2019m interested in Kracauer\u2019s reflections on popular entertainment\u2014like the synchronized dance routines of the Tiller Girls\u2014as a mirror of capitalist rationalization. Their geometrically precise choreographies reflect the mechanized logic of mass production. I wanted to create a human \u201cmass ornament\u201d within a contemporary neoliberal context\u2014a world that views individuality as radically free, yet is shaped by economy and technology. During the process, a network of care and collaboration emerged in which individuality and collectivity are not at odds but exist in dialogue.<\/p>\n

How do you develop choreography to the rather fast-paced music of Henryk G\u00f3recki?<\/strong><\/p>\n

G\u00f3recki\u2019s Concerto for Harpsichord<\/em> is a short but intense piece with two contrasting movements. The first, romantic yet mechanical, contrasts with the fragmented choreography. The second, full of feverish energy, picks up Kracauer\u2019s idea of self-dissolution within rigid structures and echoes the principle of the mass ornament. The choreography navigates between these extremes through an interlude by Tom Foskett-Barnes, gradually transitioning from chaos into ordered movement.<\/p>\n

What role do set, costumes, and lighting play in your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Given the complexity of the choreography and music, I opted for a minimalist set design. The costumes, in particular, are a subtle reference to American dance ensembles of the 1980s\u2014a simple, contemporary silhouette that functions both as a uniform and as a nod to Kracauer\u2019s connection to American culture. I wanted to evoke an aesthetic vaguely reminiscent of A Chorus Line<\/em> (1985), suggesting a world where performance, discipline, and spectacle collide.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Spanish choreographer Fran D\u00edaz lives in Germany. He trained at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto and danced with Leipzig Ballet and Staatsballett Hannover under the direction of Marco Goecke. He later shifted his focus to choreography.<\/p>\n

His work, often developed within multidisciplinary projects, frequently explores themes such as community, the need for belonging, and the reconfiguration of physical spaces and boundaries. He is also interested in the intersection with queer culture and the structuring of institutions.<\/p>\n

In 2020, he won third prize at the International Choreography Competition in Hanover with his piece Toothpicks<\/em>, and in 2021 he was a finalist at the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition with I\u2019ll do the talking<\/em>. In 2023, he premiered The Habit<\/em>, a new work for the Bavarian State Ballet, and created two further pieces within the independent dance scene: Born by the Sea<\/em> and Scheme<\/em>. The latter examines the challenges of structural transformation by investigating complaint processes within dance institutions.<\/p>\n

With Born by the Sea<\/em>, D\u00edaz was selected among the TwentyArtists for Spring Forward 2024, a program of the European dance network Aerowaves.<\/p>\n

Tanja R\u00fchl<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Born and raised in Germany, Tanja R\u00fchl began her training as an event technician in 1999 at Oper Frankfurt (Municipal Theatres of Frankfurt) and moved in 2002 to Ballett Frankfurt under the artistic direction of William Forsythe.<\/p>\n

After the founding of The Forsythe Company in 2005 and completing her Master certification in event technology with a focus on lighting in 2007, R\u00fchl took on the role of Head of Lighting for the company. That same year, she began creating her first lighting designs for dance productions, initially outside the company but soon also for Forsythe himself.<\/p>\n

As a member of the Forsythe Productions team, she consults international dance companies on the technical and artistic realization of Forsythe\u2019s works and continues to work as a designer for his new projects. Since July 2014, R\u00fchl has been working as a freelance lighting designer for the performing arts, collaborating with international choreographers, artists, and companies.<\/p>\n

Her designs have featured in productions at renowned venues such as the Op\u00e9ra Garnier in Paris, Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, Tate Modern in London, Kawasaki Arts Center in Japan, Ruhrtriennale Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum, and Taichung National Theater in Taiwan.<\/p>\n

In addition to her work on stage, R\u00fchl teaches fundamentals of lighting design and offers insights into the technical aspects of stage lighting in workshops, including at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt (HfMDK).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Albert Horne<\/strong><\/h3>\n

South African conductor and chorus master Albert Horne studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. From 2007 to 2014, he served as Chorus Director and Conductor at Cape Town Opera in South Africa. In 2013, his chorus was awarded “Chorus of the Year” at the International Opera Awards in London. In 2012, Horne was the chorus master for Gershwin\u2019s Porgy and Bess<\/em> with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle.<\/p>\n

Since 2014, he has been Chorus Director and Conductor at the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden.<\/p>\n

In addition to rehearsing the full choral repertoire, Horne has conducted numerous productions at the theatre, including Candide<\/em> (Bernstein), Madama Butterfly<\/em> (Puccini), Boris Godunov<\/em> (Mussorgsky), Peter Grimes<\/em> (Britten), La Boh\u00e8me<\/em> (Puccini), Sch\u00f6nerland<\/em> (world premiere by S\u00f8ren Nils Eichberg), Liliom<\/em> (ballet by Tim Plegge), Anna Nicole<\/em> (Turnage), Babylon<\/em> (J\u00f6rg Widmann), Il trittico<\/em> (Puccini), Oryx and Crake<\/em> (world premiere by S\u00f8ren Nils Eichberg), and Follies<\/em> (Stephen Sondheim), as well as three symphonic concerts and a New Year\u2019s concert with the Hessian State Orchestra.<\/p>\n

From 2022 to 2024, in addition to his role as chorus director, he served as Coordinating Musical Director at the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden.<\/p>\n

As an orchestral conductor, Horne has worked with ensembles such as Orchestra Victoria (Melbourne), Orchestre Pasdeloup (Paris), and at opera houses in Bordeaux, Malm\u00f6, Tel Aviv, London (ENO), and Cardiff (WNO). As a guest conductor, he led the State Youth Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate on a tour through Germany, South Africa, and Botswana in 2018.<\/p>\n

Further guest engagements have taken him to the Munich Symphony Orchestra at the Gasteig and the Prinzregententheater in Munich, as well as to the Rhineland Orchestra Academy in Mainz.<\/p>\n

As a pianist, he has performed in the USA, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Sweden, and Germany.<\/p>\n

Alice Meregaglia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Italian conductor and pianist Alice Meregaglia studied at the Conservatory of Venice and the University of Milan, earning a piano diploma and a master\u2019s degree in musicology, respectively. She later graduated with top marks with a master\u2019s degree in opera coaching at the Conservatory of Milan (under Umberto Finazzi), followed by a specialization diploma in conducting from the Conservatory of Strasbourg.<\/p>\n

In 2012, she joined the Op\u00e9ra Studio of the Op\u00e9ra du Rhin as r\u00e9p\u00e9titeur and assistant conductor. In 2016, she moved to Theater Bremen, initially as chorus director and vocal coach, later also as a conductor. There, she conducted numerous productions, including La rondine<\/em>, La cambiale di matrimonio<\/em>, L\u2019occasione fa il ladro<\/em>, Il trovatore<\/em>, L\u2019elisir d\u2019amore<\/em>, L\u2019\u00e9toile<\/em>, Don Giovanni<\/em>, Le nozze di Figaro<\/em>, Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em>, L\u2019impresario Dotcom<\/em> by \u013dubica \u010cekovsk\u00e1, Faur\u00e9\u2019s Requiem<\/em>, and Puccini\u2019s Messa a 4 voci<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She is regularly invited to international opera houses (including the Bregenz Festival, Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg State Opera, Op\u00e9ra national du Rhin, Norrlandsoperan) and collaborates with ensembles such as the Bremer Philharmoniker, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Slovak National Theatre Orchestra in Bratislava.<\/p>\n

In addition, she works as a r\u00e9p\u00e9titeur in numerous masterclasses, including with Teresa Berganza, Luciana Serra, Renata Scotto, Anna Vandi, Elisabeth Wilke, and Sylvie Valayre, and has collaborated with conductors such as Marco Comin, Mirga Gra\u017einyt\u0117-Tyla, Marko Letonja, Klaus M\u00e4kel\u00e4, John Nelson, Markus Poschner, and Christopher Ward.<\/p>\n

Meregaglia is the recipient of the Kurt H\u00fcbner Prize (2018) and currently serves as Chorus Director and Conductor at the Staatstheater Darmstadt. In March 2025, she will conduct La Cenerentola<\/em> (Cinderella), directed by Achim Freyer. She also teaches The Art of Recitative<\/em> and Italian Repertoire<\/em> at the University of the Arts in Bremen.<\/p>\n

Starting with the 2025\/26 season, she will become Chorus Director at the Hamburg State Opera.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t
