A woman-machine whose movements are driven by a treadmill. The Lithuanian-born artist evokes her alienating experience in the kitchen of McDonald’s with this hard-hitting performance with live music by Gautier Teuscher.
Based on the interviews with other fast-food employees, “workpiece” examines the physical and social conditions of labour, and their effects on the body:
“I like my light green uniform, its collar and buttons up to my throat. When I wear it, I don’t feel my body ageing. Come as you are: this space is timeless and disease-free. “Lovin’ Beats Hatin’”, Golden Arches on my ass, work consumes the bodies; fillet-o-fish, fillet-o-flesh. Futures drive-thru I remember…”

Born in Lithuania, Anna-Marija Adomaityte is a choreographer and performer. She studied Contemporary Dance at La Manufacture and has also a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from ECAL. Based in Geneva, she founded contemporary dance company A M A in 2019.
Gautier Teuscher is a Swiss musician and lighting designer. Since 2016, he has been working in sound, light and scenographic design for theatre and dance performances.
Anna-Marija and Gautier have been collaborating since 2020. workpiece, their first performance, was presented in various contemporary dance festivals in Europe. Pas de deux, their second creation, premiered in La Batie – Festival de Genève and was also part of the Aerowaves selection in 2022. Their new work, TikTok-Ready Choreographies, will be presented at Pavillon ADC Geneva and Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne in spring 2024.
Anna-Marija and Gautier’s research focuses on the exhaustion of gesture, on various forms of social violence and the capacity of bodies to erode the systems of power to which they belong.
