Winter is my season. Time passes more slowly here, it freezes, you can almost feel it speeding up backwards. If memories were material, I imagine, I would release them in winter. The ice would crystallize them, capture their ephemerality. I would carefully arrange them outside, in front of the living room window in the garden of Fuldaer Straße 48, every day anew, and watch them from my armchair by the blazing fireplace. While the warmth of the fire and the blankets nourishes our bodies, the ice would make the memories come alive. I imagine my memories listening as the vinyl player runs in the living room. How they watch us all dance together, how we expand and rearrange the memory ice sculpture in the garden, how pieces of it melt into each other, how my memories become ours. Finally, when winter is over, them melting into the soil from which springs a dense garden landscape whose scent, shape and color are fleeting reminders of our togetherness over the course of the year. I imagine all of this, alone, in my armchair in front of the chimney. The fire is cold, the summer heat is draining our garden. A fan blows cold air down my neck. The needle on the record reminds me of the sleigh that runs along the track of the music. The red sleigh whose time is yet to come at the same time as it has already passed. Winter is my season.
